It is a great chance to highlight the  quality of the terrain and the important role of Mullingar sports clubs, such as Lakeside Wheelers, Mullingar Harriers and Midlands Tri Club in bringing activity and people to the area." says Bartle D'Arcy Belvedere House General Manager.

Event Info:
The Gateway Iron Challenge is Ireland’s only Iron man race held over three days. It involves the full Iron man distance but broken up over 3 days with one discipline held per day. This is the largest weekend adventure race of its kind in the world. The event takes place on approx 30th April and 1st and 2nd of May 2012.

The Iron distance consists of a 3.68 km swim on the Saturday. A 180.2km cycle on Sunday and a  42.19km marathon run on Monday. The swim will take place in Lough Ennell at the stunning Belvedere House in Mullingar. Belvedere House Gardens and Park is a magnificent parkland estate on the shores of Lough Ennel in the Irish Midlands, Mullingar. Mullingar is the heart of the Irish Midlands and know as the Gateway of Ireland.

The event is designed for solo competitors and relay teams. You can enter just one of the disciplines or go the whole way and complete the famous Iron challenge by finishing all three disciplines over the 3 days. This is endurance racing at it best.

With one of the best courses in Europe, lake swim, flat bike course and a marathon run that is reasonably flat. This is an ideal course for beginners or for more advanced racers who want to really challenge their iron man preparations.

With some top cash prizes for the winners in each category this is an event with real iron challenge to it.

Race Details:

The Swim will be in Lough Ennell at the stunning Belvedere House in Mullingar.  Belvedere House Gardens and Park is a magnificent parkland estate on the shores of Lough Ennel in the Irish Midlands, Mullingar. The Cycle and Run will start and finish in the centre of Mullingar Town. Mullingar is the heart of the Irish Midlands and known as the Gateway of Ireland.
